Emancipation Day

All across the Caribbean today many peoples are celebrating Emancipation Day or as we say in Jamaica Fus A August. It is the day when the Emancipation Declaration was read all across the Caribbean informing slaves that they were now free. This was done on 1 August 1838. On that day people who had been in bondage for all of their lives heard the words that they were now freed people.

Today, as we celebrate our freedom from the shackles of slavery, let us also celebrate another freedom that was brought to us by our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Freedom from sin. Freedom from shame. Reconciliation with our Father God.

Paul in his letter to the Galatians at chapter 5:1 says "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."

As we celebrate this day today let us also remember that the gift that we have been given is one that was freely given. There is no hidden meaning in them. There is only salvation through the Blood of Jesus Christ

Happy Emancipation Day
