Catching Up during Summer

There is a song that is sung by Will Smith way back when he was a rapper and an actor on the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. It was called summertime. It was one of my favourite songs as it wasn't the usual frenetic beat that we usually get from other rap songs.
Why am I talking about a rap song. Well, partly because it is summer time and many of us are either making plans to go on vacation, sending our children off on vacation to visit relatives in distant countries, or as we say in Jamaica, send the children to country to visit with grandparents and extended family members.
It is during those breaks from the hustle and bustle of daily living that I think we need to take a break. I am just finishing up a 2 week stint at home where I promised that I would empty out the closets, rearrange clothes that will no longer fit (they got tight) and finally clean up my back porch. None of these things have been done.
I return to work on Monday refreshed somewhat as I didn't have to do that whole morning commute. I still checked emails and responded to a few messages, but all in all, I slept late, slept in the afternoon, spent some time with my dog, and watched tv. I also used it as an opportunity to check in with folks that I hadn't seen in awhile, especially persons who are shut ins.
This summer as you think about all the things that you would like to do around the house, how about catching up with persons that you have not seen in awhile. Pay a visit to a sick or shut in member of your Mothers' Union. You will be amazed how this catching up can have a long lasting effect on that person.
From the words of Will Smith - its summertime, time to sit back and unwind. Its summertime.
