Bridging the Gap

September is a very funny month. It is a month that I would look at as a bridge month. What is a bridge month? A bridge month is a month that sort of divides the year. For those countries that experience the 4 seasons, it means the end of summer. For children it means the end of summer vacation and the resumption of schools. For the Church it means that Advent is coming but prior to that we have Harvest.
And so September is a bridge month. It is an opportunity for us to bridge the gap between what was and what is to come. September also heralds the start of some of the more active moments for the Mothers' Union, not just for us within this Diocese, but Mothers' Union worldwide.
In September we saw the changing of the guard within the Mothers' Union as a new Worldwide President has been elected. You can read the President Elect's message here . As we prepare our hearts in September for the coming Advent season, here are a few things to think about as the year draws to a close:
16 Days of Activism - where we intercede for the victims of domestic and gender based violence
Breast Cancer Awareness Month - where we pray for those who have been affected by this scourge
Literacy - where we find ways to bring books and learning to people all over the world to empower them to reach their full potential.
As can be seen from the message from the Worldwide President Elect our theme for 2025-2027 will be Join Us and Join In.
The Mothers' Union of St. George's Anglican Church has already taken the lead on this particular initiative as we continue to work with members of the Cayman Islands community in order to reach out to the less fortunate and the most vulnerable in our communities.
September while being a bridge month is also a month where we can sit and plan and as scripture says "For I know the plans that I have for you".
For September, think about what it is that you would like to achieve for the rest of the year and put your faith into action.
